How to Change a Flat Tire
Whether you’re driving the new 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross or the Mitsubishi Lancer you’ve owned and loved for years, certain parts of your car wear over time. One common area is your tires. Getting a flat tire can seem like a scary experience, but with a little knowledge, you can get back on the road in no time.
We want drivers in the Clarksville, IN area to be prepared for any car-related situations. That’s why we’re offering up a quick guide on how to install your spare tire.
The first thing you need to do when you experience or think you’ve experienced a flat tire is to pull over to somewhere safe. Either pull off onto the shoulder of the road or down a less busy street. Before you exit your vehicle, ensure you’ve put your car in Park, engaged the emergency brake, and turned on your hazard lights.
While most spare tires and associated equipment are located in your trunk and under the floor mat, some cars are different. If you can’t find your spare and tools, consult your owners manual. Once you have your spare tire, tire iron, and a car jack, it’s time to get to work.
Start by loosening the wheel lugs over the flat tire. Make sure not to remove the lugs completely, however, as you still need to lift the wheel off the ground. Once loosened, you can jack up your car and remove the tire entirely.
Next, place your spare tire over the wheel studs and begin screwing in the wheel lugs until you feel resistance. Again, don’t tighten them all the way until you’ve lowered the wheel back to the ground. Once the spare is secure enough, lower the jack and finish tightening the lugs with the tire iron.
